This week's theme in the RedditLaqueristas' 52 week challenge is rainbows! I was wondering what to do that would be original and I came up with this freehand pattern: rainbow-colours peacock feathers. How do you like it?
I'd been wanting to try peacock feather nail art for a while, but I'd never pictured it this way! I love how it turned out. The bright colours really flash against the black background, thanks to the white polish I put under them. If I had to do them again though, I think I'd add a green line in the middle to picture the main root of the feather.
The polishes I used today:
The polishes I used today:
- Base coat: Essie - All In One Base
- Black background: Essence - Black is Black
- White (used under the colours to make them pop): Essie - Blanc
- Red: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - All Fired Up
- Orange: Revlon - Alluring Amber
- Yellow: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Lightening
- Green: Rimmel 60 seconds - Camouflage
- Blue: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Brisk Blue
- Indigo: L'Oréal - Jet Set to Paris
- Purple: Julep - Morgan
- Top coat: Sèche Vite
The technique:
I applied a base coat, then two coats of black. Then, using a thin striping brush, I painted the shapes of my feathers in white onto the black background. Then I went colour by colour to fill in each strand of the feathers on all my nails. I was left with rainbow feathers, but they didn't look like peacock feathers yet.
Using a dotting tool, I drew a heart-shaped white dot on each feather. I then covered that white dot in green. I added another pale blue dot in the middle of the green, and then an inverted U shape in indigo to mimic the peacock pattern. Then I topcoated the whole shebang and ran here to show you guys! Weee!

Funkeehhh! And I likey much! Looks real unique and beautiful :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! I really tried to find something a little out of the ordinary for the rainbow theme. Glad you like!
DeleteI say they're perfectly distinguishable as peacock feathers! And I really really like them, too!
ReplyDeleteReally? But would you have spotted them if I hadn't told you what they are? Ah-HA!
DeleteThanks though :) I think they look cool regardless. I love the pop of the colours against that black background.
Thanks for stopping by!
I seem to be oddly obsessed with peacocks, so I'd probably have seen peacocks even where there weren't any :P And I'm also a fan of rainbow/bright colors on black.
DeleteIt kinda looks like a feathery rainbow worm worming around on your nails, haha! Have you ever played the game Terraria? Man I hated the stupid worms in that game.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I'm rambling. I think this looks very cool and unique! also RAINBOWS!
Hehe yeah I thought of you when I posted it. Your fav colour! :)
